Here To Help
Poverty is increasing and food insecurity is spreading throughout York County.
According to a recent York Daily Record article entitled “Poverty is spreading
across York County,” more and more children rely on
free meals at school. Every district except Southern York County has had a
double-digit increase in its percentage of families who qualify for free meals at
school—a direct indicator of the poverty rate. According to
the U.S. Census, 51% of children 18 years of age and younger in the York City
School District lived below the poverty level in 2014, and 100% of students in that
district now receive free school meals. The problem
of not having a sufficient food supply at home will not go away on its own;
therefore, the York County Food Bank is here to help!
